Appraisals
Jewelry and loose diamond appraisals establish an item’s value for insurance, resale, or estate planning. An appraisal is a professional assessment of a piece’s authenticity, quality, and worth. The Carat's Exchange appraisal service includes a thorough inspection of the item’s condition, materials, and craftsmanship, plus a detailed evaluation of any gemstones or diamonds to determine color, clarity, cut, and other characteristics. After the examination, we produce a registered, comprehensive report that includes an estimate of the item’s current market value.
Recertification
The Carat Exchange partners with several of the world’s leading independent diamond grading laboratories to provide third-party evaluations. By consulting multiple labs, The Carat Exchange ensures grading reflects a balanced view of prevailing global standards.
A diamond/jewelry certificate — also called a certification report — is issued by an accredited independent gemological laboratory. Beyond carat weight and measurements, the certificate provides grades for cut, color, and clarity. These grades represent the lab grader’s professional opinion, based on that laboratory’s grading criteria.
Certificates also detail polish, symmetry, and fluorescence, and include a graphical plot showing the location of any inclusions.
